OAXACAN CLAY SCULPTURE
These Mexican clay sculptures, mostly from the
state of Oaxaca, are beautiful handmade pieces created by women
artisans working in primitive conditions. An increasingly popular
art form, the pieces are not available outside of the location
in which they are made. The women sell their work through cooperatives.
There are a number of books on the subject of Oaxacan clay sculpture
and many of the artisans are represented in galleries in the United
States and Mexico. Each piece is unique and representative of
the artist who created it. We also sell ‘black pottery’
from San Bartolo coyotepec, in the style of Dona Rosa.
